This sweet child is wearing a Fitch top, I guess. When I'm taking pictures of players, I focus on the face to get a good sharp image. In portrait photography you should always focus on the eyes, but I'm too far off to do this, this is not portrait photography. So I aim for the face, and when my machine is in focus, I let my lens slip downwards to get the complete player in the composition. I couldn't read the F the first time, and got worried about what was written on the top.

Ik denk dat dit lieve kind een Fitch topje draagt. Wanneer ik foto's van spelers neem stel ik scherp op het gezicht. Dat garandeert de herkenbaarheid van de speler. In portretfotografie moet je steeds op de ogen scherpstellen, maar ik sta hier te ver van de speelster af en dit is natuurlijk geen portretfotografie. Ik mik dus op het gezicht en zodra mijn lens scherp gesteld heeft, laat ik het naar beneden dwalen om de ganse speler in beeld te krijgen. Eerst kon ik de F niet lezen en maakte mij zorgen over wat op het topje geschreven stond.

A good thing that the trainers can let off steam from time to time, because it is hard work. Here you can see Sofie giving Hanne the pep talk at the interval, and Patrick is watching his player closely again.

Geen slechte zaak dat de trainers van tijd tot tijd wat stoom kunnen aflaten, want het is hard werk. Hier zie je hoe Sofie wat pep talk aan Hanne verkoopt tijdens de interval en Patrick volgt zijn speelster opnieuw goed op.

I featured Suzanne Leman here on my blog on January 16. I know I risk that some of you will doubt me, but I was actually aiming for a photo of her trainer here, Patrick Devos aka Pat Foxx. Is is never easy getting a good action photo of the sporter and the trainer in the background in one shot. But I'm pretty please with the result here. Thank you, Suzanne!

Suzanne Leman stond hier eerder op mijn blog op 16 januari. Ik weet dat ik riskeer dat sommige bezoekers hier gaan twijfelen aan mijn bedoelingen, maar ik viseerde wel degelijk haar trainer, Patrick Devos aka Pat Foxx in deze foto's. Een goed actieshot van een speler/speelster nemen met de trainer zichtbaar in de achtergrond is niet gemakkelijk, dus ik was redelijk content met dit resultaat. Dankjewel, Suzanne!

So, I went to a youth tournament in Brugge yesterday. Two of my favorite trainers, Sofie Vanpraet and Dieter Willems posed for a fun photo for me. They seemed to be having a good time. The guy sitting down is one of my trainers, Peter Absolon. Standin up: Cas Depuydt, one of my players.

Gisteren ging ik dus naar een jeugdtoernooi in Brugge. Twee van mijn favoriete trainers, Sofie Vanpraet en Dieter Willems poseerden voor een leuke foto. Zag er naar uit dat ze zich amuseerden. De man op de stoel is Peter Absolon, een van mijn trainers. Staand: Cas Depuydt, een van mijn spelers.

I'm picking up Margaux in about two hours and we will be heading for the KWcup badminton youth tournament in Brugge. A great way to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon. This is an action shot I took of Margaux during KW Cup Bavikhove, her friend Rani is closely following her match as well as her trainer/coach Tom.

Binnen een kleine twee uurtje pik ik Margaux op en rijden wij naar de KWcup te Brugge, een jeugdbadmintontoernooi.
Een goede manier om een regenachtige zaterdagnamiddag door te brengen. Dit actieshot van Margaux nam ik tijdens KW Cup Bavikhove. Haar vriendin Rani volgt haar match van dicht bij, als ook haar trainer/coach Tom.

Last Saturday I was delighted to welcome the second ladies team of Lebad in my badminton club. A beautiful team with Tineke Van Heule candidate Marilyn Coornaert. The elections are in September, obviously I want her to win. She is a great sport, I asked her if she would pose with me so I could tease her boyfriend, a young man I consider a great friend. I love young people, anyone who says anything bad about young people upsets me. I take pride in being the president of a badminton club with nothing but great young players. On that matter you can agree with me or be wrong.

Vorige zaterdat was ik in de wolken om de tweede damesploeg van Lebad te kunnen verwelkomen in mijn badminton club. Een mooi team met kandidaat Tineke Van Heule Marilyn Coornaert. De verkiezingen zijn in september en ik wil dat zij wint. Sportief is ze, ik vroeg haar of ze met mij wou poseren zodat ik haar vriend kan pesten, een jonge man die ik als goede vriend beschouw. Ik hou van jonge mensen, wie er slechte dingen over zegt kwetst mij. Ik ben trots om de voorzitter te zijn van een badminton club met allemaal fantastische jonge spelers in de jeugdwerking. Wat dat betreft kan je het eens zijn met mij of het bij het verkeerde einde hebben.

I rarely take pictures of players from behind, it sounds kind of dirty, doesn't it? Sometimes I do experiment, and I found these 3 consequetive shots to be a good textbook exemple of a scissor kick. Or maybe the trainers don't agree with me?

Ik neem zelden foto's van badminton spelers van langs achter, dat klinkt nogal aangebrand, niet? Soms experimenteer ik wel en ik vond dat deze 3 opeenvolgende foto's een schoolvoorbeeld zijn van een wisselsprong. Misschien gaan de trainers niet akkoord met mij?

The daughter in yesterday's post is Silke Van Impe. C2 player who plays really well. She didn't have that much trouble with the competitors during my recreative tournament on Easter Monday.

De dochter in de post van gisteren is Silke Van Impe. Een C2 speelster die heel goed speelt. Ze had niet veel moeite met de tegenstand tijdens mijn recreantenontmoeting op Paasmaandag.

The annual recreational meeting in my badmintonclub this Easter was made lovelier by this mother & daughter team in our own special discipline: wheelchair mixed doubles. The mixed being: 1 wheelchair player & 1 standing player.

De jaarlijkse recreantenontmoeting in mijn badmintonclub op Paasmaandag werd een stukje mooier gemaakt door dit moeder & dochter team in onze eigen speciale discipline: gemengd dubbel rolstoel. Waarbij gemengd betekent: 1 rolstoel speler met 1 rechtstaande speler.

Polish artiste Magdalena Abakanowicz displays two Corten Armours, two metal skulls, maybe that of seagulls, in the dunes near the beach in Westende/Middelkerke. Are these skulls bearers of instincts and emotions that overpower the intellect?

Poolse artieste Magdalena Abakanowicz toont twee stalen pantsers, twee ijzeren schedels, misschien van zeemeeuwen, in de duinen aan de grens met het strand in Westende/Middelkerke. Deze schedels zijn misschien de dragers van instincten en emoties die het intellect overmeesteren.

This is then the full view of Bernar Venet's work on the seafront in Wenduine. To me this symbolises the rolling movement of the sea.

Dit is dan de volledige kijk op Bernar Venet's werk op de zeedijk in Wenduine. Dit symboliseert voor mij de rollende golven van de zee.

This work by French artist Bernar Venet is made out of corten steel which has the property of reflecting the light. Even when it is rusty. Again this is a form of art that is meant to blend into its setting.

Dit werk door Franse artieks Bernar Venet is in cortenstaal opgetrokken, wat als eigenschap heeft dat het licht reflecteert. Zelfs wanneer het roestig is. Dit is opnieuw een kunstwerk dat niet met de omgeving mag vloeken.

Are these waves? Maybe. But this artist inspires his works on punctuation marks and scribbled lines. A but rusty by the look of it.

Zijn dit golven? Misschien. Maar deze artiest vindt zijn inspiratie in leestekens en gekrabbelde lijnen. Een beetje roestig, zo te zien.

I don't know what it is with King Edward and education, but you may remember that I made a photo of Kind Edward's School in Stratford-Upon-Avon and I managed to make a photo of the same school in bath. I tried to find out on the internet what the link between King Edward VI and schooling is, because there are loads of schools named after him in the UK.

Ik weet niet wat de link is tussen Koning Edward VI en educatie, maar jullie herinneren zich misschien dat ik in Stratford-upon-Avon ook al een foto maakte van een school die naar hem genoemd is. Ik probeerde via het internet de relevantie te ontdekken. Het enige dat ik te weten kwam is dat er massa's scholen zijn in de UK die naar hem genoemd zijn.

Not just unique shops, but pretty houses as well in the bath area. This one is somewhat on the edge of the city centre at the entrance of a large park. Looks like a nice place to live.

Niet enkel unieke winkels, maar ook mooie huizen in de omgeving van Bath. Deze vind je aan de rand vn de stad aan de ingang van een groot park. Ziet er een mooie plek uit om te wonen.

Bath is also a paradise for the shopper. You'll find all the big department stores there as well as some small and unique shops. Often with some colourful people in front of them, phoning, or just passing by.

Bath is ook een paradijs voor de winkelaar. Je vindt er alle grote winkels maar ook kleine, unieke shops. Soms met kleurrijke mensen er voor die er telefoneren of gewoon passeren.

I would find it unreal to go and buy drugs here. I have a friend who is a chemist, but his business is much more modern than this. But this had class, and a picture of a woman in front of the shop.

Ik zou het onwerkelijk vinden om hier medicijnen te gaan kopen. Ik heb een vriend die apotheker is, zijn zaak is toch veel moderner dan deze. Maar dit straalt wel klasse uit, en een plaatje van een vrouw die aan de voorkant staat te wachten.

You know what I find really cool? I was very surprised to find that the artist of the Sandworm, Marco Casagrande, wanting to become Facebook friends with me. He thanked me for the great pictures.
Climbing the dunes on the way back from the sandworm, I couldn't resist taking this nice view. Not a perfectly clear day, but it'll do.
I managed to take time to watch a great film by Woody Allen last Friday: Midnight in Paris. I can recommend it if you like good dialogues, Paris and abstract movies.

Weet je wat ik echt cool vond? Ik werd verrast door de artiest van de zandworm: Marco Casagrande. Plots vond ik op Facebook een mededeling dat hij vrienden met mij wou worden. Hij bedankte mij voor de mooie foto's van zijn werk.
Toen ik de duinen beklom op de terugweg van de zandworm, kon ik niet weerstaan aan dit panorama. Geen perfect heldere dag, maar toch een mooie foto, vind ik.
Afgelopen vrijdag vond ik de tijd om een knappe film te zien: Midnight in Paris van Woody Allen. Kan ik je aanbevelen als je van goede dialogen houdt, Parijs en abstracte films.

I love the idea of creating art using natural materials. It seems so ecologically correct to me and I find it simply pretty. So I was inspired, after visiting the worm, to try and make some art with just what I found in the dunes.

Ik hou van het idee om kunst te maken met natuurlijke materialen. Het lijkt mij zo ecologisch correct en ik vind het ook gewoon mooi. Ik was geïnspireerd na het bezoeken van de worm en besloot om in de duinen wat ecologische kunst te maken.
