Andromeda
The modern construction to the right is the hotel Andromeda. In the middle of the composition the casino with the restaurant Ostend Queen on top, giving a great view over the beach and the sea.
De moderne constructie rechts in de compositie is het hotel Andromeda. In het midden van de compositie het casino met het restaurant Ostend Queen bovenop. Dit restaurant geeft een prachtig zicht over het strand en de zee.

Little of the old villas left in Oostende. They have made room for some more modern form of constructions. Not always prettier.
Weinig oude villa's schieten er nog over in Oostende. Ze maakten plaats voor modernere constructies. Daarom niet altijd mooier.

Inside Villa Maritza
I didn't actually go in the former top restaurant, but the evening sun was shining in through the window on the first floor, so I got an idea of the decorations inside.

Rain
A sad picture of our little terrace last Sunday. Can you understand that I'm pretty excited about heading down south in the near future? A sharp contrast with the photo I posted here last Sunday, one of the rare nice evenings we have had up until now.
Een triestige foto van onze kleine terras afgelopen zondag. Kunnen jullie begrijpen dat ik enthousiast ben om naar het zuiden te trekken in de nabije toekomst? Een scherp contrast met de foto die ik hier vorige zondag postte van een van de zeldzame mooie avonds die wij tot nu genoten.

Rock Strangers up close
The seafront isn't finished yet, the pavement is still under construction. Should be finished in 10 days time, when they inaugurate this work of art. Someone said that the artists smashed up some red containers.
De zeedijk is nog niet af, de klinkers worden nog geplaatst. Dit zou binnen 10 dagen afgewerkt moeten zijn, want dan wordt dit kunstwerk ingewijd. Iemand merkte op dat de artiest een verzameling rode containers deukte.

They look good from far
Arne Quinze's rock strangers purchased by the city of Oostende to decorate the reconstructed seafront. You can see them from far. Thought they combine nicely with the reddish light of the setting sun.
Arne Quinze's rock strangers, aangekocht door de stad Oostende om de heraangelegde zeedijk te decoreren. Ze ziet ze van ver. Ik vond dat ze mooi pasten in deze oranjerode zonsondergang.

Starfish
I was walking along some beach along the Belgian coastline. Don't ask me which town, I've forgotten. I noticed hundreds of starfish that had washed up on the beach and wondered if a starfish can survive out of the water. I looked it up and found that they can survive up to 5 days, then they die of dehydration.
Ik wandelde op een strand langsheen de Belgische kust. Vraag mij niet meer in welke gemeente, dat ben ik vergeten. Op het strand lagen honderden aangespoelde zeesterren. Ik vroeg mij af of een zeester kan overleven uit het water. Ik zocht het op en ontdekte dat ze tot 5 dagen kunnen overleven, daarna sterven ze aan dehydratie.

Last Series

Ine Lanckriet - badminton violence
The top girl of the championships was U17 Ine Lanckriet, a top sporter and A-player. Here you can see her inflicting some badminton violence on victim Karen Nolf.
Het op badminton meisje op de kampioenschappen was U17 Ine Lanckriet, topsportster en A-speelster. Hier ze je haar wat onnodig geweld toepassen op slachtoffer Karen Nolf.

Umpires
Not just the sporters are VIPs during the championships, the umpires are important as well. Lisa Prina, in training and hence not yet in the ugly uniform, adds a level of elegance to umpiring.
Niet alleen de sporters zijn VIPs tijdens de kampioenschappen, de umpires zijn ook belangrijk. Lisa Prina, in opleiding en dus not niet uitgerust met het lelijke uniform, voegt enige waarde qua elegantie toe aan het scheidsrechteren.

Coaching
As I have said here before, good coaching can help too. U11 Remi Leman is very lucky, he has two bigger sisters who can help him out. Here he is being coached by big U17 sis Mathilde Leman.
Goede coaching kan ook helpen, heb ik hier zeker al gezegd. U11 Remi Leman zit op dat vlak op rozen, hij heef twee grote zussen die hem kunnen helpen. Hier wordt hij door grote zus U17 Mathilde Leman gecoacht.

My son, the trainer, would say that warming up is essential. U11 Benedict Vanhoutte knows that too, so he went and got a decent player to warm up with. U19 A-player Thijs Demeyere :-)

The big girls were enjoying themself as well. Here Vanessa shows what she can do on the trampoline. Sister Jessica doesn't seem entirely convinced.
I've just finished reading 'Child 44', a top 100 thriller by British author Tom Rob Smith. It tells the true story of a Russian serial killer in the Stalin age, the 1950's. I couldn't put the novel down, but be warned: it requires a strong stomach.
De grote meisjes amuseerden zich ook. Hier toont Vanessa wat ze kan op de trampoline. Haar zus Jessica ziet er niet helemaal overtuigd uit.
Ik heb net de top 100 thriller 'Kind 44' van de Britse auteur Tom Rob Smith uitgelezen. Gelukkig, want ik kon het niet meer neerleggen. Het vertelt het verhaal van een Russische seriemoordenaar in het tijdperk van Stalin, de jaren 1950. Het boek vereist wel een sterke maag.

Olnetop
Olnetop is the contribution to Beaufort04 by Belgian artist Nick Ervinck. The yellow blob shape represents a wave, free to splash in the direction it pleases. Must be nice to be that free.
Olnetop is de bijdrag aan Beaufort04 van de jonge Belgische artiest Nick Ervinck. De gele abstracte vorm moet een golf voorstellen, vrij om te spatten waar het ook maar wil. Tof om zo vrij te kunnen zijn.

Coast to Coast - Flo Kassearu (EE)- Beaufort04 - Bredene
Estonian Artiste Flo Kassearu points to the European economy in creating empty containers grounded useless on the beach. I don't know about useless, because some tourists were using the artworks as windbreak. The bathing beauty in the foreground of the composition didn't mind about the wind. There are 3 of these containers, but more can be less.
Estse artieste Flo Kassaeru haalt uit naar de Europese economie met haar 3 werkloze containers die nutteloos op het strand in Bredene rusten. De toeristen die de containers als windscherm gebruikten vonden ze precies niet zo nutteloos. De zonnebadende schoonheid in de voorgrond van mijn compositie trok zich weinig aan van het briesje. Er zijn 3 van deze prachtige kunstzinnige containers, maar meer kan minder zijn.

Poor Parking Skills
Belgian visitors to my blog may have read in the press that a fishing boat took a wrong turn when it was to be hauled out of the water for maintenance. Salvaging the vessel seems to be a bit of a problem.
Mijn Belgische bezoekers hebben wellicht in de pers gelezen dat een vissersboot een verkeerde draai nam toen het uit het water gehaald moest worden voor een onderhoudsbeurt. Het vaartuig bergen lijkt een probleem te zijn. Roy's foto's zijn beter dan die van mij, ik had een beetje last van overlast van de zon om de tweede foto goed te krijgen.

Tuesday morning May 29, 6:30 am, a beautiful morning and this ship is getting ready to sail away. The square in front of the railway station was rather smoky.
Dinsdag morgen 29 mei, 6u30, een prachtige morgen en dit schip maakt zich klaar om naar volle zee te trekken. Het pein voor het station was rokerig.
