About a week ago I showed half of this dancer's face, so now here's all of it. This was the starting position for their dance. A friend noticed: either it is a coincidence that all the girls in that dance group are pretty, of you have to be pretty to join.

Een week geleden toonde ik je de helft van het gezicht van deze danseres, nu krijg je haar volledig te zien. Dit was de startpositie van hun dansroutine. Een vriend merkte op: ofwel is het toeval dat alle meisjes in deze dansgroep mooi zijn, ofwel moet je mooi zijn om toe te treden.

So back to the mysterious blonde girl who appeared for the first time on my blog on september 2. Here she is dancing together with 2 other dancers and showing half of her pretty face. Now that I'm identifying the young woman here, it is time to stress that this young dancer is not the woman featured in my first photo in the park. I don't want to embarass the woman in this photo making your thing that she showed me her underwear in the first photo. A made the parallel between the two photos because of the blonde hair covering the girl's faces. This demonstration of dance was during the sports market.

Dus terug naar het mysterieuze blonde meisje dat voor de eerste keer op mijn blog te zien was op 2 september. Hier danst ze samen met nog 2 dansers en onthult ze de helft van haar mooie gezicht. Nu ik deze jonge dame indentidiceer is het tijd om toe tegeven dat dit niet dezelfde dame is als in mijn foto in het park. Ik wil deze jonge danseres niet voor schut zetten door de illusie aan te houden dat hiet zij was die in haar ondergoed poseerde in de eerste foto. Die parallel heb ik zelf gemaakt omwille van de blonde haren die beide dames hun gezicht bedenkten. Maar dat is puur toeval. Deze foto maakt ik tijdens de dansdemonstratie op de sportmarkt.

Remember the girl with the blond hair in the park? I posted that picture on September 2. Well here she is again, this time she is dancing for me. She still doesn't want to show her face and she asked me to get rid of the surroundings. She is that shy that she doesn't want to risk being recognized.

Zien jullie nog het meisje met het blonde haar in het park? Ik postte die foto op 2 september. Hier is ze terug, deze keer danst ze voor mij. Ze wil nog steeds haar gezichtje niet tonen en ze vroeg mij om ook de achtergrond te verbergen. Ze is zo bang om herkend te worden.

The sports market was a greater succes than the previous year. Maybe the timing was better, it was organized at the same time and close to trade fair nearby. A couple of pictures of the sports that were demonstrated.

In Vallandry, high in the French Alps, downhill mountain biking is very popular. A British family staying in an apartment near to ours, came down the mountain daily at high velocity. A sport not without danger. I noticed that one young woman had a very large hematoma on her thigh.

In Vallandry, hoog in de Franse Alpen, is downhill mountain biking heel populair. Een Britse familie die in een appartement dicht bij het onze logeerde, scheerde dagelijks de bergflank af. Geen ongevaarlijke sport. Ik merkte op dat een jonge vrouw een heel grote hematoom op haar dij had.

Dimitrij Ovtcharov makes it 3 in a row in the 2012 edition of the Ostend Table Tennis Masters.

Dimitrij Ovtcharov wint voor de derde keer op een rij tijdens de 2012-editie van de Ostend Table Tennis Masters.

Dimitrij Ovtcharov was being forced back to the boundaries of his court by his adversary. Jean-Michel Saive decided to help Dimitrij out, perfectly hitting the ball back that would have gone outside the court.
Life can be hard on a sportsman. Jean-Michel had to be in Brussels early the next Sunday morning, August 12, to catch the Eurostar back to London for the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games.

Dimitrij Ovtcharov werd door zijn tegenstander teruggedrongen tot aan het einde van de baan. Jean-Michel Saive besliste een handje toe te steken. Hij sloeg de bal die in zijn baan beland zou zijn perfect terug.
Het leven van een sportman kan hard zijn. Jean-Michel moest vroeg in Brussel zijn de zondagmorgen na de masters, 12 augustus. Hij moest namelijk de Eurostar terug naar Londen nemen voor de slotceremonie van de Olympische Spelen.

New in the reception area of the Table Tennis Masters this year was a great display of historic table tennis pallets. Shame you couldn’t try them out, but some of these models look very old.

Nieuw in de receptie ruimte van de Tafeltennis Masters dit jaar was een leuke tentoonstelling van oude tafeltennis palletjes. Jammer dat je ze niet kon uitproberen, maar sommige modellen zien er toch heel oud uit.

The contest to become Miss Coast 2012 is ongoing. Candidate Julie Blommaert , who is interested in sports, wanted a shot for her portfolio with a match going on in the background. This didn’t really work as Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Tokic Bojan decided to interrupt their match to pose together with this wannabe miss.

De wedstrijd om Miss Coast 2012 te worden loopt. Kandidate Julie Blommaert, die in sport geïnteresseerd is, wou voor haar portfolio een foto met een match in de achtergrond. Dimitrij Ovtcharov en Tokic Bojan werkten eigenlijk niet zo goed mee. Ze beslisten hun match te onderbreken om samen met de kandidate miss te poseren.

Masters Tabletennis in Oostende yesterday. Belgian Olympian Jean-Michels Saive is mimicking Dimitri Ovtcharov here, the winner of the masters. He is imitating Ovtcharov's service in the first photo. In the second Dimitri is copying Saive's way of behaving between games and the way he pulls up his shorts. Great fun!

Ovtcharov's service is het onderwerp van Saive's spot. In de tweede foto kopieert Dimitri Saive's manier van gedragen tussen de rallys, vooral hoe hij zijn broekje optrekt. Vette leute.

Officially the Olympic games start today in London. The first time in years that I took the time to watch the opening ceremony. Our badmintonners Yuhan Tan and his little sister Lianne Tan both play today. It is the first time Belgium competes in badminton which has been an olympic discipline since 1992. I wish Yuhan and Lianne the best of luck.

Officieel beginnen de Olympische spelen in Londen vandaag. Gisteren de eerste keer in jaren dat ik de tijd nam om de openingsceremonie te volgen. Onze badmintonners Yuhan Tan en zijn kleine zus Lianne Tan spelen vandaag. Het is de eerste keer dat België meedingd in het badminton dat sinds 1992 een olympische discipline is. Ik wens Yuhan en Lianne veel geluk.

The sad news came that the New Year's dip could not take place again, this is the second time our town tried to organize it this month. We've just been having too bad weather. With the strong wind, it is too difficult to guarantee the safety of the participants. So I need to illustrate this with some photos I took during one of the previous editions. You can see the crowd scattered on the beach getting ready for the dip in the first photo. The girl in the second photo merits my admiration. She has just come out of the water and she needs nothing to keep her warm but her bathing costume and a can of soft drink. A bit of a contrast with the last photo, in particular the young woman with the fur hat. Better luck next year.

Afgelopen weekeinde het triestige nieuws dat de nieuwjaarsduik definitief afgelast wordt. Dit was de tweede keer dat Oostende de duik probeerde te organiseren deze maand. Gewoon te slecht weer. Door de sterke wind kan de veiligheid van de deelnemers moeilijk gegarandeerd worden. Dit moet ik dit bericht illustreren met enkele foto's die ik tijdens een vorige editie nam. In de eerste foto zie je de deelnemers die zich voorbereiden op het strand. Bewondering voor het meisje in de tweede foto. Ze komt net uit het water en heeft niets nodig om warm te krijgen, buiten haar badpak en haar blikje fris. Een scherp contrast met de deelnemers in de derde foto, in het bijzonder de jonge vrouw met haar bontmuts. Volgend jaar meer geluk, hoop ik.

Another tradition with the Hermes girls is that they thank the helpers, like the ball girls and the court sweepers after they have greeted the opponents at the net. This must be these little girls dream to hi five with the volleyball players they dream of becoming. Eline David in the first photo and coach Erwin Mares in the second.

Nog een traditie met de Hermes meisjes is dat ze de medewerkers bedanken zoals de ballen meisjes en de baan schoonmakers. Uiteraard nadat ze de tegenstanders aan het net begroet hebben. Voor de kleine meisjes moet het een droom zijn om te hi fiven met de volleybalsters die dromen te worden. Eline David in de eerste foto en coach Erwin Mares in de tweede.

I got some good action shots of the libero too, Julie Vermander. She is the smallest player on the team and for a libero being closer to the ground is an advantage. As you can see here, great footwork! She is closely watched by N° 5 Nymphe Verrelst here.

Ik maakte enkele goede actiefoto's van Julie Vermander, de libero. Zij is de kleinste speelster in het team en voor een libero is het interessant om dichter bij de grond te zijn. Je ziet duidelijk waaromin deze foto, mooi voetenwerk! Ze wordt hier nauwgelet gevolgd door Nr. 5 Nymphe Verrelst.

This action shot I took towards the end of the match, the end of the fifth game. I know because I'm taking it from behind the match table, Filip's flowered shirt figures in the left bottom of the composition. I moved to that position in the hall because it is the best place to take pictures after the match.

Deze actiefoto nam ik naar het einde van de match toe, op het einde van de vijfde set. Ik neem ze van achter de wedstrijdtafel, je ziet Filip's bloemetjeshemd links beneden i de compositie. Ik koos die plek in de zaal omdat ze het interessantste is om mooie foto's te nemen na afloop van de match.

Eline op de bank zodat Julie, de libero, kan invallen. Wanneer je team goed aan het spelen is, zit je natuurlijk niet stil.

Anja Van Damme & Nymphe Verrelst shot from side court in the air. You don't get to see their face in these shots and you could accuse me of shooting legs and bottoms. I just like the power of these shots and I choose the frog perspective to enhance the 'off the ground' effect.

Anja Van Damme en Nymphe Verrelst, foto's genomen aan de zijkant van de baan. Natuurlijk zie je hier hun gezichtjes niet en je zou mij kunnen beschuldigen van benen en kontjesfotografie. Vooral de power die uit deze foto's straalt spreekt mij aan. Ik kies voor een kikvostperspectief om het 'hoog van de grond' effect kracht bij te zetten.

Not just the girls were happy about winning the match, their house photographer was pretty pleased as well.
Someone asked me how many photos I take during a match like that. I checked. I was shooting exactly 3 hours, the duration of the match, a part of the warming up included. I took 1226 photos. That is nearly 7 photos per minute. Interesting, I had no idea.

Niet alleen de meisjes waren gelukkig met hun overwinning, hun huisfotograaf leek ook redelijk in de wolken.
Iemand vroeg mij hoeveel foto's ik maak tijdens zo'n match. Ik fotografeerde exact 3 uren, de duur van de match plus een stuk van de opwarming. Ik maakte 1226 foto's. Dat is dus bijna 7 foto's per minuut. Interessant, ik had daar zelf geen idee van.

I like this action shot a lot, because I just managed to catch the skipper before she touches the ground.

Ik ben gek op deze actiefoto omdat ik er in slaagde van de skipster net te vangen voordat ze terug de grond raakte.

Sport is always on the move. A new club in Ropeskipping land is Skip Up, the chairman is a friend. He was in my hometown last Saturday for the Masters qualification. So I went and took some photos of the young talent that he had brought to our fair city.

Sport is altijd in beweging. Een nieuwe club in Ropeskipping land is Skip Up uit Mortsel. De voorzitter is een vriend. Hij bracht zijn jong talent naar mijn thuisstad vorige zaterdag voor de Masters kwalificatie. Ik ging wat foto's maken.

When this post is activated I will be on my way to Calais to take a boat. And I hope this is the feeling I will have. I was in need for this one. This post will remain here for a little while. Just in case nasty people may get ideas: my place is lived in/guarded while I'm away. You'd be safer trying something when I'm there myself :-)

Wanneer deze post geactiveerd wordt ben ik op weg naar Calais om een boot te nemen. En dit zal ook het gevoel zijn dat ik dan heb. Ik had het eerlijk gezegd nodig. Dit beeld zal hier dus eventjes blijven staan. Voor het geval mensen met minder goede bedoelingen ideeën zouden krijgen: mijn thuis wordt goed bewaakt terwijl ik er niet ben. Je loopt minder risico door iets te proberen wanneer ik er zelf ben :-)

Vorig weekeinde zag de ITT Ostend Masters Tafeltennis. Dimitrij Ovtcharov won voor de tweede keer naeen. Hier zie je 4 stadia van zijn opslag.

I was in Leuven last Friday and Saturday. I was there for a friend's housewarming. Afterwards we toured 'Beleuvenissen', a tropical music festival. Great fun, enjoyed the Mojitos. On Saturday, after a good breakfast, I discovered the beach. It is on the Ladeuzeplien in Leuven, in front of the library. The Belgian Championships Beach Volleyball are in Oostende this weekend. Hope to find time to enjoy them.

Vorig weekeinde was ik in Leuven. Ik ging naar een vriendin's housewarming en daarna toerden wij 'Beleuvenissen', een tropisch muziekfestival. We trapten lol, ik genoot van de Mojito's. Zaterdag, na een goed ontbijt, ontdekte ik het strand in Leuven. Je vindt het op het Ladeuzeplein, met de bibliotheek hier in de achtergrond. Het Belgische kampioenschap Beach Volleybal landt het komende weekeinde in Oostende. Wat denk je, zal ik er zijn?
