Another great villa in the seaside resort of Wissant in North France.

Nog een fantastische villa in de mondaine Noord-Franse badstand Wissant.

The North-West of Belgium is littered with memories of the war. So is the north of France. Like this war monument in the seaside village of Wissant.

Het noord-westen van België telt heel veel oorlogsmonumenten. Je vindt ze ook in het noorden van Frankrijk. Zoals dit oorlogsmonument in de badstad Wissant.

"La Fleur de Lis" is French for Lily. The Lily is in fact a symbol often used in French heraldry, it represents the pure, referring to the Virgin Mary. I visited the French seaside resort Wissant yesterday. Wissant gets its name from "White Sand" or "Wit Zand" as we say it in Flanders. The north of France was at one time a part of Flanders. A lot of the towns and villages there bare names of Flemish origin. This villa near the sea, which I particulary like, is exploited as a bed an breakfast.

"La Fleur de Lis" betekent lelie. De bloem van de lelie kom je in de Franse heraldiek vaak tegen. Het verwijst naar het pure, naar de maagd Maria. Ik bezocht gisteren het Franse dorpje Wissant langs de opaalkust in Noord Frankrijk. De naam komt van "Wit Zand" van toen dit gedeelte van Frankrijk nog bij Vlaanderen hoorde. Veel stadjes en dorpjes in die omgevig hebben nemen van Vlaamse origine. Deze villa nabij de zee, waar mijn oogop viel, wordt uitgebaat als bed & breakfast.
